First Day of Winter!

The calendar says it's the first day of winter, but I think it's been here for a few weeks! In the Chicago area were were in the teens last week.

I'm "almost" finished with my Christmas shopping :o). Hope you are having a lovely and safe Holiday Season!

1. Stamp snowman and sign next to each other on watercolor paper.  If need be, draw snow humps in between the two images.
2. Stamp gloves hanging on the snowman's "arm."
3. Stamp hat and scarf on scrap watercolor paper.
4. Cut a rectangle to fit note card around snowman and sign.
5. Use color pencils to add color to snowman, sign, and accessories. Use waterbrush to move color around.
6. Cut out hat and scarf, and adhere to snowman.
7. Use glue pen to draw where you want glitter. Sprinkle glitter on.
8. Add highlights with opaque pen.
9. Adhere layers.

Santa's Suit

I colored this image a while ago and assembled the card today. I remember I started coloring with watercolor paints and then received my Pearlescent Watercolors and changed mediums in mid stream. :o)

I added the belt buckle today. I started with a yellow square brad and painted it with a gold paint pen   because I did not have a gold square brad. After it dried, I used a sharpie to color a square in the center of the brad. I used a glitter pen on the buttons and a gold metallic pen on the sleeves and boot buckles. I added white paint in a thick consistency for the fur, and swirled with a toothpick. I painted a thin layer on the white of the candy cane.

To my recollection, the supplies used were:

Harvest Blessings Picnic

Since I took my My Creative Classroom class, I'm really getting into water coloring.  I broke out my water color travel kit. I bought it at JoAnn's last spring with a coupon and had been saving it... I don't know why. I've bought tools and paper that I'm saving... AND, I'm going to use all of it one day.

1. I stamped the images on water color paper and just started coloring. I found coloring with the cakes is really easy! Just add water. I used the lid as my palette. I'm including pictures of my work in progress. I painted the top of my water color kit. The plain surface was calling me to add some color! :o) I painted right after I bought it, and set it on the shelf...  TIP: If you go outside the lines or put too much water/paint down, use a paper towel to sop it up.

2. I cut out images. I had imagined an outdoor scene using a pie... I was doodlin' on my paper and thought of the pie sitting on a picnic table. I drew the picnic table on WC paper.
3. Before deciding on the water colored background, I stippled a background with ink. It didn't work for me, so I flipped the CS over (Papertrey Ink has a nice weight to it, so you can use the other side).  I started with the grass - painting on one coat, then letting it dry and  coming back and adding shadows where I had planned to add the images.  For the sky, I just went back and forth with a wide water color brush, picking up paint when I thought I needed it. I was pleasantly surprised at how the sky came out.  I love techniques where you don't have to be precise - I am not a precise person.

4. After letting the CS dry, I trimmed it and placed my images where I thought I wanted them before gluing. Once I finalized my placement, I committed the pieces with glue, popping the pumpkin up... beyond the border just a bit ... Sometimes I like to go beyond the border.

Harvest Blessings

I used watercolor and coloring with markers to create this card.

I'm taking an on line class through My Creative Classroom. Colleen Schaan is teaching the class. It's great for beginners because she teaches you ALL the basics for coloring with different mediums. It's also great for an experienced crafter that may have an expertise in some of the coloring areas and want to get better in others. Water coloring is an area I definitely need improvement in! :o) After a few practice runs and some feedback from Colleen, I felt confident enough to breakout my Harvest Blessing set designed by Anna Wight. 

1. I stamped the images with StazOn onto WC paper.  Using reinkers and a waterbrush, I colored the scarecrow, pumpkins, apples, and basket. I did not have all the colors I wanted, so I mixed colors on my palette (an old CD).  I even discovered some new ones as I mixed. :o) On my way to a bright orange for the pumpkins, I found a mustard color I used for the shirt  and basket rim - great fall color! I cut out all the images.
   
2. The background is stippled with Blending Blox, using my homemade cloud template for the sky. I drew the corn stock with Copic markers.
   
3. When I stamped the sentiment, I accidentally rocked my stamp and created an extra mark on my tag. That probably never happens to you. I was looking for a way to fix that le boo boo. I had drawn some extra apples to put around the bottom the basket. I placed one over the extra black mark. Viola! it's fixed. Plus, I added an element in a place where I was not thinking of - and I like it. Then I thought about adding a leaf there too. I used Copic markers to color my hand drawn apples and leaf.
   
4. I stamped the images on the background first for placement and then glued the cut out pieces down. For the scarecrow I used the head and body pieces and colored the stake of the stamped image on the background with Copic markers.  When I cut him out, I cut his head off (that sounds bad, but remember he's not real!) so I could cut close to his neck. Since I had stamped the image on the background, it made easy to glue him in place.
   
5. I finished off the card with a little Copic marker shadow under the images and a few highlights with a gel pen.
