Copic Technique Series
I have planned different monthly technique classes. I will provide a list of the markers used prior to each class and the store will have a supply of them for purchase as well.  Each session is on the second Thursday of the month from 1-3 pm and cost $15 OR for those preferring weekend classes, I will offer a two classes every other month on a Saturday.

Teaching Copic Techniques

Starting in January, I'll be teaching a monthly class at Creative Cuts and Crafts on Copic coloring techniques. I'm so excited! Linda and Claudia, the owners, are lovely ladies and their customers are so much fun! I took an Art Impressions class there in the summer and had a ball.

The first class will be January 12th on shadows and shading featuring Art Impressions and Hambo images.  We'll be adding a Saturday class starting in February.  You can check around town at The Brannon Factory or Creative Cuts and Crafts class schedule for the latest schedule. Hambo Hoedown 18

This project features one of Hambo Stamps new adorable fruit/veggie children. They can be found in New-Additions at the Hambo Digi site. 

1. Used the Paint application on my PC to cut the words away from the TIF file I received. I  saved it as a separate file.  I wanted to have more room to cut around it.
2. To print the images, I inserted the digi images into my word.doc application.  TIP: The first time you print, print it on copy paper. Check to make sure it is the size you want.  When you are sure the size you want,  then print on your nice card stock.
3. As soon as I saw the image, I knew what design paper I wanted to use - Papertrey Ink's new release includes the cutest fruit design paper. I matched the colors of markers to the paper.
4. I used two or three colors from a color family to add color to the images. Because the strawberry is such a large area to color, I used four markers - R21, R24, R27, R29.
5. For the background layer of the image and the work sentiment, I cut them out using die cuts, left the die cut in and used the airbrush system to add color with a boarder. NOTE: When you use markers over your die cuts, you can clean them off with alcohol.
6. Adhered all layers.
7. Added a strip of design paper inside.

I Should Have Brought a Jacket!

 

I'm using these cute little penguins again for Hambo Hoedown 17! This time they have taken a trip to the moon. The moon  is a digi image.  My textured background was made using waxes, my new favorite coloring technique!

1. I used the word.doc application on my PC to determine the size of the moon.  I wanted it to be the width of my top layer card. I used the ruler on the side of the application to size it.  TIP: The first time you print, print it on copy paper. Check to make sure it is the size you want.  When you are sure the size you want,  then print on your nice card stock.
2. I inked up the penguin images and stamped them onto white paper and cut them out.
3. I found  free clip art of an astronaut helmet on line. Printed it out onto card stock. I first sized it and printed on copy paper before printing on my nice card stock.  Cut images out. Use craft knife for tight spaces. I ran the smaller images through a sticker maker.
4. Now, time for coloring! I used two or three colors from a color family to add color to the images.
5. On black glossy card stock, I used an  iron and waxes to create space background.  The stars are created with white dots of wax.
6. Adhered all layers and images.  I used Crystal Lacquer to fill in the glass of their helmets.
7. Printed the sentiment on my PC, and cut it out.

What's Up?!

This weeks Hambo Hoedown is all about bold bright colors and paper piecing.  I really dig paper piecing.  I think it gives some 'umf' to a flat surface.  Click here to see another paper piecing project I shared.

1. Used the Paint application on my PC to cut the words away from the TIF file I received. I saved it as a separate file.  I wanted to have more room to cut an oval around it.
2. To print the images, I inserted the girl & balloon digi image into my word.doc application, copy and pasted it twice. I made each one a different size.  I knew I wanted an itty bitty one for the inside. TIP: The first time you print, print it on copy paper. Check to make sure it is the size you want.  When you are sure the size you want,  then print on your nice card stock.
3. I chose the larger size I wanted and printed that size on the design paper. I thought this paper was appropriate for traveling.  :o)  I cut out all the images, using a die cut for the words. I cut the strings off also and drew them in later. I wanted the background to show through.
4. I decided which pieces I wanted to use from the design paper and then colored the rest of the girl & balloon. I used two or three colors from a color family to add color to the images. TIP: Color slightly beyond where your design paper will end. That way if your paper does not fit perfectly, you won't have a white space in between.  It will just all blend in.
5. Put small dabs of liquid adhesive on the part of the base image for design paper and place designer paper pieces on top. NOTE: For this this technique, liquid adhesive works best because it allows you some time to move your designer paper around to fit perfectly over your base image.  Dab inside your image, not at the edge. When you press down on the designer paper, the adhesive will spread. If it does spread beyond the edge, just wipe it off.
6. I used scallop dies to make cloud templates - a big one for the outside and a little one for the inside.
7. I used the air brush system with the template to create a bright fluffy sky on an A2 size piece of card stock.  For the inside, I completely masked the left side and lower part of the card.
8. Adhere all layers. Use a multiliner to draw in strings.

Penguins Love Ice Cream

I think my favorite Hambo images are these cute little penguins. They are so versatile! This time the little guys are after some ice cream!  This card combines digi and rubber stamps. It  is the one time I do measure - an approximate measure. :o)

1. I lined the penguin rubber images up and measured how tall they were.  I inserted the ice cream man digi image into word.doc and used the ruler on the side to determine the desired size.  TIP: The first time you print, print it on copy paper. Check to make sure it is the size you want.  When you are sure the size you want,  then print on your nice card stock.
2. After printing the ice cream man image, I used a stamp position-er to place each penguin on top of the next.
3. Printed the image again onto design paper. Cut out umbrella.
4. Now, time for coloring! I used two or three colors from a color family to add color to the images. Added some detail to the cones with a multiliner.  Added stripes to vendor's shirt with paint pen.
5. Adhered all layers
6. Stamped a penguin on the inside and drew in an ice cream cone.   I used water-based markers to add a little color.

My Travel Agent is so Fired...

I made this card for the Hambo Stamps DT call.  Isn't this little summer dude cute?! He is ready for the warm ocean, sun and fun. Too bad his travel agent sent him to the Arctic.  There's a penguin inside waiting to hang out with him.

1. To print the images, I inserted the wee henry snorkel image into my word.doc application and made it the  size I wanted.   I then inserted the ice scene and sized it. TIP: The first time you print, print it on copy paper. Check to make sure it is the size you want.  When you are sure the size you want,  then print on your nice card stock.
2. Since the wee henry image is so small, I used one or two colors from a color family to add color. I used the colorless blender to move color around and create shading in very small areas.
3. Cut out the image.
4. Added color to the ice scene with different shades of blue.  I used an airbrush to color the sky. TIP:  Use a paper towel for masking. You can just lay a paper towel over the area, trace the shape and cut out with scissors. Position the paper towel slightly below your line so you do not get a hallo.
5. I then adhered wee henry on top of the ice and added a little shadow with a blue marker.
6. Printed the words on my printer and used a black marker to edge.
7. Gave his goggles "plastic" with a clear glaze pen.
8. Stamped a little penguin image in the corner of A2 size white card stock. Added a little color with makers. Trimmed 1/4 " off top and off one side. Adhered on inside.

Bird-lesque Show

Fun things are happening at Hambo Hoedown this week! The weekly hoedown is featuring this cute little farm chicken, polka dots and stripes. There is also an upcoming blog hop that features a theme using a movie title.  Well, I quickly read the post and thought is was all in one. :o)  My husband came up with the play on the movie name when I showed him a chicken on stage making a grand appearance.  :o)  I added two more chickens to make it a bird-lesque show.

1. To print the images, I inserted the chicken digi image into my word.doc application and made it the  size I wanted. I copy and pasted twice for a total of three images.  I then inserted the stage and sized it. TIP: The first time you print, print it on copy paper. Check to make sure it is the size you want.  When you are sure the size you want,  then print on your nice card stock.
2. I used two or three colors from a color family to add color to the images. 
3. I used a white paint pen to add polka dots and stripes to two of the chickens.
4. After the paint dried, I cut them out and adhered them to the stage. I used a pop dot to adhere the lead dancer.
5. I printed the movie name on my printer. Used black marker to edge.

Little Basket of Love

I made this little basket for this week's Hambo Hoedown.  The card features a cute little basket of wonderful hearts.

I leaned how to emboss digi images when I took Sandy's Digital 101 Class at My Creative Classroom - excellent class!

1. To print the image, I inserted the digi image into my word.doc application and made it the  size I wanted.  TIP: The first time you print, print it on copy paper. Check to make sure it is the size you want.  When you are sure the size you want,  then print on your nice card stock.
2. I rubbed an anti static bag over water color paper and set my printer to BEST quality. IMMEDIATELY after it printed, I sprinkled emboss powder and heat set. I was literally standing at the printer with my powder.
3. I chose the design paper and primary markers to match.  For this image since the hearts cover a  small area, I chose just primary colors
4. I added color to the image with markers by drawing a thin line of color within an embossed area and spread the color with the water brush.
5. I added a subtle grounding of grey marker and spread color with water brush.
6. I added a shadow of blue around the basket and hearts, and spread color with water brush.
7. I cut out the basket image with a circle die cut.  I cut out the sentiment image with a rectangle die cut. I cut layers out of design paper and card stock and adhered them onto the base card.
8. For the inside of the card, I added a boarder of design paper, drew a heart in the corner and added color with marker and water brush.

Hambo Hoedown This Week

I am submitting this card to the Hambo Hoedown.    This week features King Hambo digi! In my card, he's helping to celebrate a birthday.

1. To print the image, I inserted the digi image into my word.doc application and made it the  size I wanted.  TIP: The first time you print, print it on copy paper. Check to make sure it is the size you want.  When you are sure the size you want, then print on your nice card stock.
2. Create your background. On an A2 size piece of  white card stock, ink up tree and stamp towards the left.  Draw horizon line and hill with multiliner pen.
3. Color the images using two or three markers in a color family for shading. 
4. Cut out the king image. Use a white pen to decorate his robe. Use a red glitter pen to add rubies to his crown.
5. Ink up the sentiment and stamp inside the sign. I used a Stamp-a-ma-jig for exact placement.
6. Mask off the tree and hill. Using a scrap piece of paper mask off cloud areas and airbrush the sky. NOTE: Watch out for airbrushed fingers!
7. Use G40 to create a little shadow for the tree.
8. Adhere layers. Use pop dots for the king and his sign. Add a little shadow with the G40 marker.
9. Use Tombow markers to color sections of the tree and stamp on side.  Run markers over the image to make it pop.

Hambo Bouncing Bunnies Baby Card

This baby card features a Hambo Stamps digi design. I really dig Hambo designs because they are so versatile and so much fun to color!

1. Print medium size bunnies image on design paper  for the image to color, and print small size again on lower left hand side of white card stock paper.    Note:  I use the Power Point application to insert a digi image into a file for printing.  I printed a few sizes of the bunnies image on both white and design paper.  I sized one smaller and printed in the lower left hard corner. Cut white card stock to A2 size, and then trim 1/4" inch off top and side.. 
2. On the design paper , color each bunny's belly, nose, shoes, and ears with markers.  Repeat color pattern on little bunnies' bellies, noses and ears.
3. Cut rectangle around image on design paper.
4. Cut layers of orchid and design paper each slightly larger.
5. Adhere ribbon around largest layer design paper and then adhere to  base card. Adhere all layers.
6. On inside of card adhere white card stock with little bunnies. Adhere a strip of design paper.

Hambo Hockey Outdoors

Woke up in the middle of the night thinking about this idea. :o)  Does that ever happen to you?!  This card is for the Hambo Stamps DT call. See details here.  

This is an A2 size card. 

1. To print both images, I inserted the digi image into my Power Point application and made it the size I wanted.  I copied a second image and then selected it. With in the rotate feature, I flipped it horizontally. This made a reverse image.  TIP: The first time you print, print it on copy paper. Check to make sure it is the size you want.  When you are sure the size you want, then print on your nice card stock.
2. Once you have the images you want printed on your card stock, use the Multiliner pen to add lines to the hockey sticks, and also slightly change one of the numbers on a jersey - the boys are on the same team. :o)
3. Color the images using two or three markers in a color family for shading.  Use a white pen to make the numbers pop on their jerseys, and also on their skate and glove laces. Add a little highlight to their helmets. Use silver metallic pen to color the skate blades. Allow to dry.
4. Cut each image out.
5. On a piece of white card stock brayer blue ink.  The Pearlescent will give your background a nice  sheen.
6. Cut layers to the sizes you want and adhere.
7.  Use pop dots for the boys and puck.
   
8. For the inside of the card, print or draw a hockey puck with the Multiliner pen.  Color for a nice little surprise.

Attitude

It's all in the attitude and what this Hippo Sister is saying to me is, "I feel good and I look good!"  I used the paper piecing technique to match her outfit to the polka dot scalloped layer behind her.

1. Stamp hippo image two times, once on white card stock, and once on the decorative paper.
2. Cut out Hippo Sister's outfit out of the decorative paper.   Even if you make a lee boo boo like I did cutting off a piece of her tutu, you can just adhere it in place and it's not noticeable on the finished card. :o)
3. Add color to the Hippo image using Copics. You only need to add color to her face, neck, arms and legs. Add grass beneath her feet. 
4. Cut Copic colored image with circle die cut. Cut scalloped layer.
5. Assemble Card.
6. On inside of card, add a piece of white card stock for the message  and stamp dance shoes.

Copic Class with Hambo Stamps

I just had a great evening sharing the fun of coloring with Copic Markers with four lovely ladies - Carrie,

Halloween Bling

Bling can add to every occasion - even Halloween. :o) I know it's early, but I'm thinking of candy.... I have warm memories of Halloween growing up in my neighborhood - kids getting excited about costumes, new treat bags, and running from house to house. I like cute Halloween images - and Hambo has some really cute ones on sale. 

1. Ink up bat image with silver and stamp randomly on base card.
2. Stamp skeleton and tree images on white card stock. Color in with markers and cut out.
3. Add a little something extra to the inside of your card by adding images - stamp web and spiders on white card stock and adhere to inside of base card.
4. Adhere smaller layer of glitter paper to front of base card. I didn't measure - I just wanted it to be small enough to see the bats on the base card.. 
5. Adhere your the tree and skeleton on the front of the card. 

Alternative ideas... (1) add some glitter to the spiders (2) emboss the spiders

Sizzlin' Summer

Monica and Tim are having a contest and I'm gettin' in on it.  This really cool cat is a free down loadable image. Visit Talk to the Ham to find out more!! My cat is dreaming of ice cream - something I do all summer long...

1. After downloading the image, I opened word.doc and inserted it. I made it larger because I wanted a big cool cat!
2. Loaded white card stock into my printer and printed the image.
3. Colored him with markers. I have an HP ink jet printer and have now learned to not get too close to the lines with my markers. :o)
4. To give the cat a bit of texture, I colored in tight circles and then went back over him in larger circles, and in a few spots a third time in tight circles - being careful not to put too much ink on. Too much marker will tear away the paper.
5. Stamped the ice cream truck image on white cards stock and colored with markers.
6. Cut images out with die cuts and assembled card. I traced around the scalloped circle with a black marker. I purposely make it "not neat" and squiggly - it's a dream.... 
7. Stamped sentiment with black ink and drew little dream bubbles

Blah Blah Blah on The Phone

Do you know anyone who talks and talks and talks on the phone? If you don't, it might be you :o) I have people in my life that this cute little guy from Hambo Stamps reminds me of, and sometimes it is me!

1. Stamped the pig image with black ink on watercolor paper.
2. Scribbled marker on non-stick surface. Picked up color with waterbrush. I tried coloring direct  on the paper and then spreading the color with the waterbrush, but it was too dark, so I switched methods. For the darker areas, i.e. his ears and nose, I colored directly on the paper with the marker. I darkened his eyes, inside his ears, his mouth, and hooves with a fine line drawing marker (I need to add some reinker to my ink pad!).
3. I cut out the main parts of the image and ran them  through a sticker maker. For placement, I'll stamp the image again, so the things I cut completely out - phone antenna, balloon string, and his tail - will be there.
4. After all that, I started thinking about the background... I decided on an outdoor scene in a square frame. I wanted to add the cute ice cream truck by Hambo in the background and some trees. I drew a road, sponged in grass, added blades of grass with a marker, drew in some trees and sponged in the sky. I used a stamp from SU! Watercolor Minis to create the tree leaves, using two shades of green (I learned this from Kittie. She has really kool scene stamps). I inked up really well then stamped several times across the trees before reinking. 
5. I used the steps above for the pig to stamp and color the ice cream truck. I used a pink metallic marker to give it some sparkle. I used a clear glitter pen on the windows.
6. I used the same marker coloring technique to add color to the street.
7. I stamped the pig and ice cream truck images in the scene for placement and the little lines, and adhered the cut out images.  I colored in the exhaust from the truck directly with marker.
8. I stamped the sentiment "blah, blah, blah" with VersaFine so it would be dark. I need to buy a Brilliance reinker!
9. Assembled the card and added dew drops and ice cream elements.

I really enjoy Hambo Stamps and bought quite a few with their last release.

1. Stamped image on white card stock.  For the majority of my paper projects with Copics I use Papertrey Ink or Neenah Classic Solar White.  I wanted to try coloring on the Whisper White.  It's good to practice on different papers to see works best for you. The more you practice, the more comfortable you get with your stuff, and the better you get!
2. I colored the image with Copics. I used a metallic pen on the bucket, and a white pen on the bunny's tail and tummy. I cut the image out with a die cut shape.
3. Next,  I masked the image and sponged blue around it for sky. I removed the mask and filled in the blue I missed with a fine tip cotton swab.
4. I colored the grass and added a few blades of grass with a fine tip drawing pen.
5. Put layers together and added a button.

Hambo Stamps Just Crack Me Up!

I am enjoying my Hambo Stamps this week - they really do just crack me up!  Check out Monica's blog.

1. Stamp image on Patertrey Ink white card stock. Color image with Copic Markers. To get texture on her pants, color with a dark, dark blue B39 and then use the Colorless Blender 0 to pull color out and create a pattern. Use glitter pens to color over flowers.
2. Stamp garden gloves and spade on PTI scrap paper and color with Copic markers to match the colors in the main image. Cut them out.
3. The sentiment is computer generated - it captures how I feel about Hambo Stamps!  Add a border with a marker.
4. Color steams of flowers with green marker and flower pot brad with brown marker to match main image.
5. Assemble all the parts

I've Got Your Back!

This hardworking man has my back! It's good to have someone looking out for you!

1. I stamped the image on watercolor paper with Brilliance Graphite Black.
2. I used a water brush to dip in lids of SU! ink pads and colored the hard working man.  If you find the color is too intense, drop water into ink (learned that tip from Kittie).  After the ink dried, I cut him out, using a craft knife around the the tight places.
3. I opened up my base card and mask the inside with a piece of scrap paper to create a sharp edge right where the card closes.  I used the stipple brush to add some background color and then stamped the hammer, saw, and bandage.  For me hammers, saws and bandages go together. :o)
4. I adhered the image to the Nestabilities cut layers.  Tip:  When gluing a smaller piece that will over hang, lay it where you want it and make a small light pencil lines on the base card at the edge on the three sides. Remove it and put your adhesive on the base card inside your pencil lines and then lay your smaller piece over the adhesive at the pencil lines.
5. I then stamped the sentiment and added a tool element with glue dots.
