Grammy Award Winning Maude

I really dig the expression on Maude's face!  She is from Art Impressions.   I've been taking a Tombow class at My Creative Classroom with Kim and used the technique I learned on Maude. 

1. Ink up Maude image with black ink, stamp onto watercolor paper, sprinkle with embossing powder and heat set.
2. Add color to the image with markers. Start with lightest shade of pink and cover the most area, then spread with water brush. Allow to dry. Color the next shade covering less area, then spread with water brush. Allow to dry. Color with the darkest shade of pink covering a small area and spread color with water brush. Allow to dry.
3. Repeat with a dark and light shade for the rest of the areas to color.
4. Cut out image. Set aside.
5. Cut 1/4" off top and off one side of an A2 size white cardstock. Stamp door in center.  
6. Ink up and stamp again onto design paper and cut out. Stamp the knocker in the center of the door. 
7. On white layer, draw in step and side walk under the door.
8. Ink up rock images and stamp on sides of step. Color them in with marker.
9. Using a ruler and micro pigment ink pen, draw horizontal lines to represent siding of house.  Using a grey marker, draw in a thin shadow under each line.
10. Adhere design paper door over stamped image on white card stock.
11. Color area under the house. Color marker directly on grass image, and stamp grass along side of sidewalk. Color once, stamp several times to give your grass some depth. Repeat until you are happy with your lawn.
12. Adhere white layer onto base card.
13. Adhere Maude with pop dots.
14. Stamp sentiment image on a scrap piece of paper and cut out with decorative scissors. Run the thicker tip of black marker along the edge of the sentiment. Adhere to front of card.
15. Stamp rock image on inside of card

White on White Pot

I wanted to make a white on white pot card to give away, because I will not be giving away the one I made in Mile's class. :o)

1. Ink up pot image with VersaMark ink pad, stamp onto white card stock, sprinkle embossing power and heat set.
2. Cut out image.
3. Stipple silver onto a portion of the pot, being sure to get into sections of the image. Use a paper towel to remove ink from embossed image.
4. Use flower punch to punch out two flowers.
5. To lift the pedals up, lay them onto a soft pad and use a bone folder or pointy object to push in center of each flower - I learned that valuable technique in Mike's class. :o)
6. Adhere the flowers together with a dab of glue. Set aside to dry.
7. Cut several strips of thin paper pieces of confetti card stock and then crinkle them.
8. Add foam tape to the back of the pot and place strips of crinkled paper.
9. On base card, add wide strip of confetti card sock vertically and a small strip of designer paper horizontally.
10. Place pot onto base card.
11. Adhere flower with foam tape. Add a dab of pearls.
12. On inside of card ink up mini pot with silver ink and stamp. Add a flower and strips coming out of  the pot with a metallic pen. Add a little bitty dab of pears.

It'll Be Here in a Couple Months...Snow

Not that I'm rushing it!! Just rushing using this cool tree image by Michael Strong. :o) There are three sizes with the set. I used the middle size outside and the small inside.  I know the snow will be here soon enough. I am really enjoying our fall in IL.  The trees in our neighborhood are starting to turn and the street is alive with color!  The base card is 5 1/2" x 5 1/2".

1. For this project choose three papers that compliment each other.
2. On the image piece, ink up medium size tree with white craft ink and stamp vase onto blue paper. Sprinkle embossing power and heat set.
3. Cut the other two papers to a 5 1/4" square. Stack them together and place diagonal on your trimmer - corner to corner.  Cut down the center.
4. Take one of each and fit together to form square. You can leave a space in between or butt up together.
5. Use liquid adhesive to position two triangle pieces. The liquid adhesive allows you more time to shimmy and position paper pieces.
6. Adhere a white layer over the triangles and your image layer on the top. 
7. Use the white gel pen to make snow.
8. Ink up sentiment image with blue ink pad and stamp in lower right hand corner.  Use blue metallic pen to highlight the first letter of each word.
9. Ink up small tree image with blue ink pad and stamp across the bottom of a white piece of card stock to go inside the card for the message.

Traditional Enamel Cloisonne Vase

I really enjoyed making the card around the traditional enamel cloisonne style and just had to make another one!

1. Rub watercolor paper and black card stock with anti-static bag.
2. Ink up vase image & thanks word image with gold ink.
3. Stamp vase onto watercolor paper. Stamp word on black card stock.  Sprinkle embossing power and heat set each image.
4. Cut the word image out with die cut and set aside.
5. Add color to vase sections with markers by coloring in a corner of the area and then spread the color  with the water brush.
6. Cut out image.
7. Cut a piece of black card stock slightly larger than the vase.
8. Cut three strips of ribbon long enough to wrap around the left edge and go slightly beyond the right edge edge.
9. Lay your ribbon down using two sided tape to adhere around the back and tack down on the front near the center.  You can measure the distance or just eye ball it.
10. Adhere design paper to base card.
11. Adhere black piece, with ribbon dangling on right side, in upper left corner of design paper.
12. Adhere ribbon to the design paper using adhesive mini dot.  Note: adhesive mini dots are a very strong adhesive. Once you press down, it's not moving.
13. Adhere gold embellishment dot with adhesive mini dots.  Place the adhesive mini dot right over the other adhesive mini dot. All will be hidden with the gold embellishment.
14. Adhere vase over ribbon and thanks sentiment on the corner of the card.
15. Ink up mini vase image with gold ink, and stamp a portion of the image along the side of a piece of white card stock for the inside of the card.

Paper Piecing, Coloring, & Fashion

I am making several cards for an Art Vendor Fair coming up next month.  Sharing some images that use the paper piecing technique. I also included a photo of dresses I colored. I just love coloring with Copic markers!! I get great results with blending - even when I mess up! :o)

For this project:

1. Stamp several images on white card stock. This is your base image.
2. Color portions of image that you will not cover up with pieces of design paper. Cut out images.
3. Stamp the same image on designer papers. Cut out the portions of the images from the designer paper based on pieces you want to use on your base image.
4. Put small dabs of liquid adhesive on the part of the base image for designer card stock and place designer paper pieces on top. NOTE: For this this technique, liquid adhesive works best because it allows you some time to move your designer paper around to fit perfectly over your base image.  Dab inside your image, not at the edge. When you press down on the designer paper, the adhesive will spread. If it does spread beyond the edge, just wipe it off.
5. Use a glitter pen to add sparkle to jewelry.

Fashionable Bookmark

Hello!! I just returned from a wonderful family vacation! We picked up our relatives in MI and drove to the Virginia Beach area in a 12 passenger van, and then met up with more family.  We were talking, snacking, and napping all the way there.  We had a fabulous time. It's always good to see everyone together - the children playing... and the food - oh man!! It was all good!!

Before I left, I made a fashion bookmark as a thank you for a lovely necklace my son's girlfriend's mother made for me.   With this background fill technique, when you are making one, you might as well make two or three as you will have plenty of background color.

1. Cut vanilla tags 1/4" smaller than black book mark.
2. Rub ink on non-stick craft mat.  NOTE: run ink pads next to each other. Do not overlap the colors.
3. Spritz with water.
4. Pick up color on tag card stock by lightly swirling it around.
5. Heat set to dry. Iron flat.
6. Ink up images with ink pad colors used for background and stamp randomly on bookmark.
7. Ink up necklace image with dark blue and lavender ink pad colors and stamp randomly on bookmark.
8. Ink up sentiment images with dark blue ink pad and stamp randomly on bookmark.
9. On scrap piece of white card stock, ink up purse image with dark blue and stamp. Repeat onto bookmark. Ink up another purse image with lavender and stamp on white card stock and on bookmark. On the white card stock, color purses with Copic Markers blending one or more markers from the same color family.
10. Cut out the colored purse bag of purse images - not handles. Adhere cutouts over stamped images on bookmark. Use glitter pen to add bling highlights to purses and handles.
11. Punch flowers out of various colors of scrap paper. Run the flowers through a sticker machine. Add some bling with stickles. Set aside to dry.
12. Add flowers to book marks.
13. Slip into plastic cover and add fibers.

Classy Greta

Greta is from Rubbernecker!  Isn't she classy?!  I wanted to keep the background simple so she would just pop out.

1. Ink up image with black ink and stamp on stampers select white card stock.
2. Color image blending two or more markers from the same color family into an area.
3. Cut out image. Use craft knife for tight areas.
4. Use die cut for the oval layer. Cut piece of design card stock to fit bottom third of A2 base.   Add a little color with a gray marker for a ground she will stand on. Adhere layers and image.
5. Add sparkle to her earring and bracelet with the glitter pen. Allow to dry, add another layer.
6. On an A2 size piece of white card stock, ink up part of image stamp off, then stamp in the corner. Add sparkle to her earring and bracelet with the glitter pen. Trim 1/4" on one side and top. Adhere to inside of card for the message.

Frog with Bling

This adorable frog is from Glitterbabe's Art Shop. She has several cute images at her shop!

1. Print image on water color paper.
2. Put a drop of each re-inkers in a plastic paint dish or old or piece of plastic. Sometimes I also use the ink in the top of the ink pad. 
3. Use the water brush to add color to the cute frog.
4. After image dries completely, add bling to her eyelids, eyelashes and necklace with the clear glitter pen.  I used the yellow for the center of the flower.
5. Use the red metallic pen to add color to her lips, and the black metallic pen to add color to her pupils.
6. Cut image and layers out with die cuts.
7. Adhere layers to base card.

Thank you from the Plumber

This delightful plumber is from I Brake for Stamps.  I entered a contest they were having to name a new line of humorous senior images. They liked the name I proposed for this cute senior - Got Poop? :o)  I received him in the mail this week. I had fun coloring him!  At first, I thought how am I going to get to all his tools? After I got going, I found it easy with the brush tip of the Copics markers. I really dig those markers!!

1. Ink up image with black ink and stamp on stampers select white card stock. 
2. Color image blending two or more markers from the same color family into an area.
3. After you color the blue jeans, moisten denim fabric with colorless blender solution and light press onto jeans.  The solution 'pulls color out' leaving the pattern from the fabric.
4. Cut out image. Use craft knife for tight areas.
5. Add "lenses" to his eye glasses with the glaze pen. Allow to dry, add another layer. Repeat one more time.
6. Use die cuts for your oval layers.  Adhere layers and image. Add a little color with a gray marker for a ground the plumber will stand on.  TIP: Whenever I have something to adhere that is an odd shape, or very small, I like to use a sticker machine to make sure I get coverage. A liquid adhesive is also good for this - just be careful not to put too much, too close to the edge, or it will squish out when you press down.  I know from experience. :o)  Les boo boos....

Pastel Butterfly

Featuring Michael Strong's butterfly in this pastel card.  I really enjoy embossing his Cloisonne styled designs!

I used two different techniques to create the butterfly's backgroud - brayering and polished stone. I wanted to try both to see which one I liked against the soft colors of the design card stock I had chosen. This card is made to fit into a 5 1/2" square envelop.  The base card is 5 1/4" square.

1. Saturate a large cotton ball with alcohol (very moist, not dripping). Squeeze two drops each of pink and purple re-inker onto the cotton ball randomly. Squeeze two drops of the gold re-inker, apart from each other. Dab the cotton ball randomly around the glossy card stock. The alcohol makes the ink spread. If there’s too much ink in one spot, dab over the spot again to spread the ink. Dab over areas until you get the effect you   want.  Tip: Because a little goes a long way, use at least a 5 ½” x 8 ½” sheet of card stock at a time. If you dab too much, you’ll get a big blob. Set aside.
2. On a A2 size piece of white card stock, brayer green, pink and lilac. Start from a different corner for each color, brayering toward the center of the card. 
3. Lightly run anti-static bag over the polished stone and brayered pieces of card stock.
4. Ink up the butterfly image with gold ink, stamp on polished stone card stock. Re-ink and stamp on brayered card stock. Sprinkle both with emboss powder and heat set.
5. Cut out each butterfly - body only.
6. Cut design card stock into layers to fit the square size base card. NOTE: For the two pieces of design card stock, I overlapped the bottom to the top about 1/2" and adhered them together, then cut to the layer size I wanted. 
7. Wrap the ribbon around the area where the two pieces over lap. TIP: When you are trying to achieve precession placement, liquid adhesive allows you to move your piece around to get into place. I learned that in Michelle's workshop a few weeks ago.
8. Ink up the butterfly image with gold ink, stamp on white card stock.  Sprinkle with emboss powder and heat set.  Cut out a scalloped oval with die cut.
9. At this point decide which butterfly you want to use on this finished card. Save the other one for another project. I chose the brayered piece. I like the contrast on the subtle background. Adhere the embossed image body over the stamped image.  Adhere to the card.  Add dots with gold pen and allow to dry.

Thank you for your Hospitality....Sorry About Your House

Whenever our relatives come to visit two things happen....

Thing1) Something is broken when they leave.  Once it was the vacuum cleaner (it was nice of my brother-in-law to vacuum). Another time it was the garbage disposal.  And to be fair, we've done our share of damage too.... I broke my sister-in-law's blinds. My son got red ink on Grammie's new couch.

Thing2) Someone always, always forgets something - a sock, a whole bag of dirty clothes, a toothbrush, etc... We collect everything in a bag and save it for the next time they visit, or take it to them when we go visit them.  Although, I did wash that bag of dirty clothes....didn't want to save that. :o)   It has become a contest at our house.  We wave good-bye from the drive way. Go in the house to the window on the side and wave from there. Then we break up and start looking. Who ever finds a forgotten item yells out what he or she found. Then we call them on the cell phone and say "guess what I found?" There's no prize, just bragging rights. :o)

We're always glad to have company and to visit our family. The visits make great stories. Member -not remember, but "member" - that time.... :o)

I had so much fun making this card - I was gigglin' with every piece.  Sending a shout out to my daughter for the idea of having stuffing coming out of the pillow. That may be from a past experience she participated in....

1. Lightly drag the gray ink pad direct to paper over textured card stock.
2. Cut couch & chair out with die cut.
3. Ink up chair outline image with black ink and stamp onto die cut - since the image is clear, you can easily see where to stamp. Repeat for the couch. Note: I tried it the other way, stamp first, die cut second.  That did not work for me. The die cut moved slightly as it was going through my Cuttlebug machine.   If anyone has any tips on this, please leave a comment.
4. Ink up picture image and stamped onto scrap white card stock. Repeat for two more pictures.  Repeat for open image of pillows (3 of each square and circle) and lamp.
5. Add color with markers.  I used just one marker from each color family and then used the colorless blender 0 to pull color out for the shading.  This technique works beautifully with the PTI select white card stock. 
6. Cut out the images.  The small punch works just right for the round pillows.
7. Run all the images through the Xyron sticker maker.  Save one pillow that will be adhered with a dimensional.
8. On an A2 size layer of white card stock, draw a base board with the multiliner and a ruler.  Add color with marker. Use colorless blender 0 to pull some color out. Run the marker back and forth in short horizontal lines to create a faux wood grain.
9. Add color to floor with gray marker.
10. Cut off one leg from the couch and chair to give the appearance they are broken. Adhere couch and chair.
11. Ink up table image and stamp in between couch and chair.
12. Adhere pillows and pictures.  Before adhering lamp, cut the lampshade off so you can place it lopsided. 
13. Draw a little outlet and a cord from the lamp.
14. Tear off a corner of your pillow that you did not run through the Xyron. Use the dimensional to adhere a piece of cotton and pillow on the floor.
15. Ink up coffee cup and stamp onto floor.  Add colors and a little spill with markers.
16. Ink up sentiment and stamp. Change words with multiliner.
17. On the inside of the card ink up chair and stamp in the corner. Adhere a pillow. Ink up sentiment and stamp.

It's an Adventure!!

In life we have one adventure after another. Some are small and some are huge. Some are a joy and some are a challenge - those help us to grow.  I'm thinking these two are on an exciting adventure - they are on "a mission."  This expressive image is from Art Impressions. I just love their images. I've collected several of their images and Bonnie's DVD! If only I had enough time to make all the cards I imagine in my mind. :o)

This card is 5 1/4" by 5 1/4".

1. Ink up image with black StazOn and stamp onto water color paper.
2. Add color with water brush and water color paints. 
3. Cute image out. Use craft knife and pad for tight places.
4. Use white gel pen to add highlights.
5. Ink up biker image, without the cloud of smoke, with gray StazOn and stamp onto design paper.  The reason not to ink up the cloud is, the complete image is a little wider than the design paper layer.
6. Ink up word image with craft ink and stamp onto design paper, sprinkle with embossing powder and heat set.
7. Run cut out images through Xyron sticker machine and position on design paper.  Adhere design paper onto base card.
8. Stamp partial image on inside of card for a nice surprise when the card is opened.

Summer Blossoms

We are fully into summer with sunshine and thunderstorms.  Summer rolls in officially June 21st, however in my area it is warm - all legs and toes are out.  The kids have been playing in the sprinklers.

1. Rub water color paper with anti static bag.
2. Stamp the flower image with gold ink, sprinkle embossing power and heat set. Repeat just for the butterfly and the flower he's on, creating a partial image that will be used as a pop up.
3. Re-ink flower and stamp on vanilla card stock. This will be used for the inside of the card. 
4. Add color to flowers and butterfly with markers by coloring in a small area and spreading color with water brush.  Also color partial image.
5. Cut out partial image around butterfly and the flower he is on.
6. Cut designer paper to desired layout. 
7. Use corner punch for corners on right side of card and also punch the vanilla card stock on right side.
8. Adhere layers.
9. Use dimensionals to pop partial image
10. Adhere Dew Drops with Crystal Lacquer.

Sharing my experience on choosing images.   I really like a variety of styles - scenic, whimsical, realisc, solid, outlined.... The one thing I always look for when buying images is versatility - I think about how many ways can I use the image and what type of techniques I can use with the design.

These two cards were extremely simple to make, and because all the design is in the stamp image, the outcome is really pretty, and different, with just a few supplies.

1. Use water base markers to color directly on the image. Lightly spritz water onto image and stamp on   water color paper. NOTE: "huff" on the image if it takes a long time to color the image. 
2. To create a water color effect, use a water brush or paint brush dipped in water (damp, not dripping) to spread color. Rinse brush in between colors.
3. Assemble layers.

Watercolor Stampscapes

 

For this month's Stampscapes challenge we get to do any technique we like! I've been wanting to try watercoloring with Stampscapes, so this is my opportunity. :o)  Using the Art Impressions way to watercolor, I created this lovely water scene.

1. Color directly on stamp with water based markers, using green on the trees, and brown on cabin and rocks.  For the lake reflection of the trees on the image, stamp with StazOn. 
2. Stamp onto watercolor paper.  Note: use StazOn when you want to keep the image sharp. I   wanted my trees to keep their shape in the reflection.
3. Dip paint brush into clean water and then pat most of it out on a paper towel. Gently spread the color on the cabin, be careful not to go in the windows. Spread color on the rocks.
4. When moving to a new color of the image, clean brush in water.  Spread color on the trees and the ground.
5. Scribble red marker onto plastic palette, pick up color with damp paint brush and paint roof of cabin
6. For the reflection of the cabin in the water, use a brown fine line marker
7. To add water, scribble bright blue marker onto plastic palette, pick up color with damp paint brush and paint using horizontal strokes and leave some white space
8. Repeat for sky using a lighter blue and be careful around trees
9. After paper is dry, add yellow glitter to windows and clear glitter to water
10. Assemble card layers. Add buttons.
11. Inside card, add a strip of designer paper and stamp trees.

Santa's Bag

This cute Santa bag image is from Stamps By Judith. It is actually designed by Heather - two very talented artist in the same family.  I was in the mood for bright colors and had so much fun coloring this image! Being able to choose my colors is my most favorite thing about stamping!!

1. Stamp image on white card stock with Memento ink.
2. Add color with Copic Markers, blending colors together in the same color family using two to three markers to create shading, e.g. R24 and R27.
3. ORGANIZATION TIP: Cut shapes of all your base card stock colors and label them. You can easily use these samples when trying to match to design papers.
4. Adhere layers and ribbon.
5. Stamp sentiment with Versafine ink pad - very nice ink for detail stamping.
6. Place white card stock on inside of base card for message. Color piece of stamp image with black marker and stamp in corner.  If you are very, very careful, can add color with Copic Markers. Try not to touch sides - it may bleed.
