Inspiration
and ideas are everywhere! Color combinations and layouts are in
magazine ads, on TV, in display windows, on a dress or outfit someone
is wearing, etc, etc, etc…. I keep an Inspiration Journal with my
drawings and pictures from magazines, articles, and ads. I also get inspiration from creative people - I've listed some to the right under "Sites that I'm Inspired by."
I don't watch a lot of TV, but usually when it's on(and I have the remote control) it's on HGTV or DIY. A few weeks ago I saw a living room make over with a color combination I really liked.
I used Gina K's Daisy stamp set to create two cards and a book mark using the color combination of light blue and brown. I didn't have all the supplies I needed in the colors I wanted, so I created my own using markers and paint.
To create the book mark, I started with a Sunday International's bookmark, which has a nice plastic sleeve to protect your creation. I did not have caramel color CS, so I used acrylic paint to cover the base. I let it dry for days, while I was busy doing other things. :o)
- I stamped the single daisy on white CS, colored it with my Copics, and cut it out. For the double daisy, I colored the CS first with the wide tip of the Copic, then stamped on top. I found that easier than coloring each peddle.
- I stamped off the double daisy to create a subtle background and sponged around the edge.
- For the words, I inked up in VersaMagic then in the dark brown ink, added clear EP and heat set.
- Last step was to glue everything down, slip into the plastic cover and add a brown ribbon!
Card 1
I started with painting the base CS and a second layer a caramel color.
- After the CS dried, I painted the tulips using the pillows as a guide. I really liked those pillows!
- Next I stamped the vase of daises on a small rectangle piece of white CS, cut around the image border, and colored with my Copics. I used a glitter pen to give the water some sparkle. Next, I color trimmed around the painted layered piece and the vase piece with a Copic marker. It's not as dark as the brown I painted with, but that's ok. I did not feel the need for this card to have the browns and blues match exactly.
- I stamped the vase of daisies in brown around the parameter of the base card and adhered the layers.
Card 2
The next card was really quick. I didn't have dark brown CS either... I used my darkest brown Copic marker to color a border on the base card.
For the layered card I simply stamped the leaf randomly, stamping off on scrap paper first. I did the same thing for the blue. I stippled brown and blue so it was not so stark and adhered it to the base
For the long rectangle piece, I inked the leaf with VersaMark then the blue. I cleaned
the stamp and inked up again. I wanted to make sure I had enough ink on each image so it would be a fully loaded leaf. Sprinkled embossing powder on both and heat set. I stippled the boarder of the rectangle and adhered it to the card.- The last step was to add the cute little Dew Drops.
