Teaching Copic Techniques

Starting in January, I'll be teaching a monthly class at Creative Cuts and Crafts on Copic coloring techniques. I'm so excited! Linda and Claudia, the owners, are lovely ladies and their customers are so much fun! I took an Art Impressions class there in the summer and had a ball.

The first class will be January 12th on shadows and shading featuring Art Impressions and Hambo images.  We'll be adding a Saturday class starting in February.  You can check around town at The Brannon Factory or Creative Cuts and Crafts class schedule for the latest schedule. December Card of The Month

I made this card for our Club Posh COTM.  I've been all over the place the last couple of months and have had little time for creating. :o) Life gets like that sometimes. You just got to roll with it!

1. Ink up Santa image with gold ink pad, stamp onto white card stock, sprinkle with embossing powder and heat set.
2. Use in-direct method of adding coloring with Tombows. Scribble color on pallet and pick up with blender. Use glaze pen to add "glass" to his glasses. Set aside to dry.
3. Cover Santa with masking tape.
4. Squeeze out small amount of ink onto non-stick surface. Pick up color with finger and apply in swishes onto card stock.  Allow to dry.
5. Ink up pinwheel image with blue ink pad and stamp randomly.  Use white ink for the snow flake. Allow to dry.
6. Ink up Joy image with gold ink pad, stamp onto white card stock, sprinkle with embossing powder and heat set.

Girfriends

Friendship can start at any age in life, but there is something special about our girlfriends we make when we are very young.  I think Mo's image of Irma and Vieno captures the essence of friendship at an early age. Another one of the images I colored during my power coloring session so I did not note all the markers I used.

Gift Tags & Mo

For these little gift tag samples, I used Mo's images - another great benefit of digi images is that you can print them any size you want! I really dig coloring her images in all sizes. They are just so darn cute! I also used some other adorable small images I have.  Here,  I'm using more Tombow techniques - having a ball with my markers!

1. I wanted each tag to be ATC size, 2.5" x 3.5".  For the digi images, I inserted several images on one sheet and added text with  for the TO: & FROM:  in each tag area. 
2. I printed on copy paper first to check placement.  I cut them out to make sure spacing was good.
3. For the rubber images, I cut the paper first and then stamped.
4. I used a combination of direct (color direct to paper, then blend with blender pen) and in-direct (color onto plastic pallet, pick up with blender pen) techniques for each image.

Christmas in the Tropics

One year I would like to spend Christmas in the tropics.  This is me enjoying a cup of vanilla flavored coffee on the beach surfing the internet for artsy sites. :o)  I picked up this cute little internet surfer at Peddler's Den when I was there a couple weeks ago. While there I also picked up some really nice stipple brushes that Tonya had.  If the Store is too far for you to travel too, Tonya will ship to you.  I'm going to do this card again on a 5" x 5" base card. My beach is not wide enough and it kinda looks likes like it drops off. :o)

1. Inked up image with Memento and stamped.
2. Used low tack tape to place stencil. Added color with stipple brushes.  Used a cotton tip swab to darken the color of the trees away from the sun and also add a little shading to the sun.
3. Mask off area for beach and stippled.
4. Mask horizon line and stippled in water.
5. Used my little cotton tip swab to add sun light to the ocean.
6. I wanted the green leaves behind the rock to match the green in the palm trees, so I tapped the forest moss Distress ink pad on my non-stick match and picked up color with a water brush. I was careful not to use too much water as I was not coloring on watercolor paper. The Cryogen is such a nice weight card stock and stands up to a small amount of water, i.e. it does not buckle [Side note: I picked up Cryogen cared stock at Peddler's Den also.  When you buy in bulk, it's a great price!].
7. Added color using the direct to paper method - color directly on card stock with Tombows and then spread color with blender pen.
8. Use a sponge and cloud template to add life to the sky.
9. Used the vintage photo Distress ink pad to edge the card.
10. Adhered the scene to a 4.5" x 6" base card.

In-Direct Cocktails

I'm using another Stamps Happen image to highlight the in-direct technique with Tombows Dual Brush Pens.  For this card I used a white outline for a different look. I really like it with glasses and the dark background. I used the picture on the wooden stamp for a color guide.

1. Inked up  image with watermark ink pad and stamped onto watercolor paper, sprinkled embossing power and heat set.
2. I scribbled markers onto plastic pallet.  Used the water brush to spread water inside an embossed, then picked up color with water brush and spread color. I use a combination of dabbing and spreading color. I mixed different colors and just had fun with it.
3. I skipped over an embossed area so I would not be coloring right next to a wet area and just continued dabbing and spreading. Repeated until I colored all the glasses.
4. For the background, I laid down one coat, let it dry, then added a second coat. I wanted a lot of contrast.  I found the wide tip water brush to be more effective for larger areas, and for  getting a clean edge around the glasses and inside the boarder.
5. After it dried, I used a die cut to trim it.  Click here for a tip on getting your die cut where you want it around your image.
6. assembled layers and adhered the dew drops.

1. Inked up mini tree image with watermark ink pad and stamped onto white glossy card stock. 
   Repeated five  times.  Sprinkled embossing power and heat set.
2. Mask a moon with a circle. Used torn paper to mask hills for snow.  I used B23 to air-brush the snow, and B24 to air-brush the sky.
3. Used die cuts to cut out trees
4. Used craft knife to cut small slits in the snow hills.
5. Adhered trees.
6. Used glitter pen to add snow.
7. Used stamp positioner to line up sentiment image and stamp.
8. Tied ribbons.
