Stamping, Painting, & Coloring make me Giggle

Candy for the Neighborhood Kids

 I really don't "celebrate" Halloween, but I do enjoy passing out candy to our neighborhood children. They are so cute!! Made this card for a swap this month at Club Posh.   The finished card is 4.5" x 6".

1. Used a circle mask for the moon, then brayered the background with blues. Stamped the house and fence, then sponged the ground.
2. Stamped the images on a scrap piece of paper. Colored with markers and then cut out. Embossed the skeleton. I really dig the little skeleton. You can cut him apart and pose him how you like.
3. Adhere images onto base card. Stamp a few bats in the sky.  Stamp some images on the inside.  I also like to decorate the back too.

October Club Scrap Jr. Kit

I am a member of Club Scrap and get the most beautiful variety of  papers, card stock, stencils and rubber every single month.  This month I used supplies from the kit to make this lovely card and also used one of Mike's images. This card measures 5 1/4 " x 5 1/4".

1. I taped the stencil down on an area of design card stock.  NOTE: I strategically placed the stencil down to make sure the part of the design on the card stock I wanted would be on my finished card.
2. Dabbed paint all over the stencil.  Carefully lifted stencil and pulled off tape. I immediately rinsed the stencil off and used a soft brush to clean it while the water was running on it.
3. After the card stock dried, I cut the square that I wanted.
4. Then dabbed paint around the border. Allowed it to dry.
5. Dabbed paint onto rubber image and stamped onto card stock. I immediately cleaned the rubber with water.
6. After image dried, cut it out with scissors.
7. Stamped a few images on a piece of white cards stock for the inside of card.
8. Adhered everything together.

Sharing a finished card from my Mo coloring frenzy.  I just noticed, this is one that did not make the group photo shoot.  I had so many! :o)

As with my other Mo cards, I did not add much.

1.  I added lines in for  the sidewalk, grass border, and grass dots around the images.
2. I saved the file I that I created to print all these images for my coloring frenzy. I printed this sized image on a piece of copy paper, covered it with Eclipse masking tape and ran it through the printer again.  I then cut out the  mask and put it over the images.
3. I sponged some fluffy clouds for background - on the image piece of card stock and also on the base card.  I sponged very softly on the inside for a subtle look  - over the right inside of the card. I used to just sponge in the corner, but got the idea to do the entire section from one of my Sisters at our DuPage AME Sister Circle on Monday night. We had a wonderful time making cards for some of our Church fam. It so awesome how creativity & sharing come out in groups!  Some of the ladies had never stamped or made cards before and they had wonderful creative ideas!  As you can see, I learned a couple new things.

What do you think she did? :o) Could be a variety of things.... I'm just crazy about Mo's children images. They depict what little people are really like.  I'll be sharing several more Mo cards over the coming weeks.

Basically, I just colored and assembled.  Mo's images have so much character, I choose not to add too much around them.  I used my printer to make the sentiment.  On the inside of the card, I added a couple strips of design card stock to carry color forward.

A Splash of Fall

All the pretty autumn colors are starting to show on the trees in my area.  For last month's swap at our StampscapesII Group, I made this card that shows a splash of color.  Click here for general tips on scenic stamping.

1. I stamped the boats and dock first, and built everything else around them.
2. Next I stamped 212G across the lake and then filled in on the sides.
3. I used a torn paper towel to mask. I learned that trick (and many, many - many more from Sandy H!)
4. After my ink dried completely, I started to add color with my Copics. I colored the water first, then the boats and dock.  Added color to the trees and grass, using various colors of green to give depth.  Added a splash of fall yellows and oranges to a few of the trees.
5. After adhering the layers, I added glitter,  Stickles and pearls to add splashes of color and a little bling on the ground (learned that trick from Trish H).

Deep Blue Sea

Sharing an underwater scene using Encaustic Painting.

1. Inked up image and stamped onto card stock.  I actually stamped this one at the May Stampscapes retreat. :o)  I only used a portion of the complete image.  I liked this Coronado Island image so much that I ordered it.   After I mounted it on EZMount, I cut it in pieces so I can easily use a portion or the complete image.
2. Use iron and waxes to create water background.  See here for post on tips and Encaustic video.
3. Holding card stock in mid air, lightly touch and pull away the iron to create the ocean bottom.
4. Using the tip of the iron pull the wax up for underwater foliage.
5. Adhere layers.

Nighttime on the Farm

This scene was inspired by my Stampin' Brother, Ken.  Ken teaches scenic stamping in the AZ area and recently posted a wonderful, dramatic scene at our StampscapesII Yahoo Group using this Beeswax lake image and Stampscapes images. I was inspired by the way he created such lovely blues in his sky and lake. So I tried!

2. Here's the order I stamped in, using a paper towel to mask when needed: (1) the boats and dock image (2)  lake (3) grass  (4) barns (5) mountains (6) filled in with more grass (7) sky.
3. After the ink was COMPLETELY dry, I added color.  I used markers for detail coloring. In Ken's scene, he made his roof tops pop with color. I did too.
4. I used the stylus for the grass, mountains, sky and water.  I built the rich color with a few shades and added a splash of purple. Ken taught me about the splash of purple when I met him at my first Stampscapes retreat.
5. Lastly, added branches around the scene and signed my name. :o)

Copic Coloring Mo Frenzy

A few weeks ago, I shared how busy I was coloring Mo's images.  Today I'm sharing some of the results. I do have a lot more to color, but I'm making progress!  As you can see, I printed several images at one time on full sheets of card stock and then just got busy with my Copics!!  One of the things that attracts me to Mo's images, is the diversity of people she draws - different colors, shapes, sizes, ages... God made us each unique and beautiful.

Over time, I will create finished greeting cards with these adorable images.  Of course, I'll share them with you all!!  I am keeping track of the colors I'm using and will share that too. :o)

October: National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

 

You know it's October when you see NFL players wear bright pink!  I love to see it!! Commercials on TV, adds to remind women to take care of themselves, and lots of opportunity to support a worthy cause.

1. Inked up image with brown ink and stamped onto white card stock. Repeated on second sheet of card stock.
2. Inked up image again, focusing on the skirt,  and stamped onto design paper. On the second image, I inked up the mini  shell  image and stamped to add a design to her scarf and one of   the fabric rolls.  Repeat several times for the pattern you want.  NOTE: I stamped off each time to create a  subtle pattern.
3. Colored the portions of image that I was not planning cover up with pieces of design paper/card stock. I did color a base coat for the patterned fabric roll - to make sure I had a back-fill in case I missed any little pieces.  Color the image using two or three markers in a color family for shading.  When you have a large area, I find three shades work best. For smaller areas, I use two. For her eyes, I used a black mulitliner to fill in her pupils, leaving a small white space. Then used a brown marker for the rest of color. After it dried, I used the same brown marker to color just a little portion on the left side of each eye ball to give it dimension.
4. Cut out my main image and all the pieces.
5. Adhered full image  to base card.
6. I put small dabs of liquid adhesive on the part of the base image for the pieced fabric roll and skirt, and then placed each piece in place and press lightly. TIP: For this this technique, liquid adhesive works best because it allows you some time to move your pieces of paper around to fit perfectly over your base image.  Dab glue inside your image, not at the edge. When you press down on the designer paper, the adhesive will spread. If it does spread beyond the edge, just wipe it off.  For more information about this technique, called paper piecing, click here to see a post I did with details on how to do this.
7. I stamped the her ribbon on, colored it, and used a glitter pen to add a splash of sparkle to her jewelry.  
8. For the inside of the card, I used  a scrap piece of paper to mask and then spread color in the open area of the base card.
9. For the letters, I inked up each one with VeraMark ink then inked up with pink and stamped onto scrap white card stock.  Next I sprinkled embossing powder , heat set and adhered them over the pink area.
10. I stamped a couple images on the inside, and as you can see I like to stamp the back of my cards too!

Uh oh....I didn't think he would go that high...

I submitted this card in the Art Impressions card contest for September. It was inspired by July's contest winner, Anne. You can see her card here. This card is 5 1/4 by 5 1/4". 

1. Rubbed anti static bag across watercolor paper.
2. Inked up images with black ink, stamped onto watercolor paper, sprinkled with embossing powder and heat set. 
3. In thinking about how I wanted to lay my scene out, I knew I would only use the top of the fence. I cut it in half and planned to butt it together to go across the entire card, and place the little girl in front of the seem to hide it.
4. Added color to the images with markers. Starting with lightest shades and I covered the largest area with in an embossed area. Colored the next shade darker covering less area. Color with the darkest shade,  covering a small area.  NOTE:  I only used two shades in smaller areas. Since I'm only used parts of images, I color the sections I needed.
5. Used a water brush to blend the colors with in an embossed area, starting with a clean brush tip in the lightest area.  Allow to dry.
6. Repeat for the rest of the areas to color
7. For the leaves of the tree, I inked up the image with Distress Ink pads - starting with yellow, then added orange, a lastly red. I also trimmed the trunk so I could put it higher up in the scene.
8. Cut out images.
9. I used a cloud template and the Copic Airbrush system to create my cloud background. 
10. I laid the images out on the background for placement and then adhered them. I used scissors to cut the excess off.
11. I drew the balloon on watercolor paper, added color as described in step 4, and cut it out.
12. I adhered the balloon above the cat and drew the string in.
13. I adhered a piece of orange card stock to the back to frame it.
