Here's my card for the July Art Impressions card contest! The design is inspired by the AI class I attended on Wednesday. Even though his adorable face looks innocent, there's trouble a brewin' with a combination a little boy and a sling shot... :o)
- Inked up Ben front and back images with black ink, stamped onto watercolor paper,
sprinkled with embossing powder and heat set.
- I used the guide I created of my favorite color combinations to choose my colors. Added color to the images with markers. Started with lightest shades and cover the largest area within an embossed area, then spread with water brush. Allowed to dry. Colored the next shade covering less area, then spread with water brush. Allowed to dry. Colored with the darkest shade covering a small area and spread
color with water brush. Allowed to dry. NOTE: I worked on both front and back pieces at the same time, i.e. colored front and back shirt, then moved to shorts.
- Repeated for the rest of the areas to color.
- Cut out images.
- Repeated the above steps for the flower pot image. Used a black marker to draw in a jagged line to represent a broken pot. Cut broken piece out.
- For the spilled dirt and plants, I drew in the dirt a piece of watercolor paper. I used a grey
and black marker to add color, then used water brush to spread the color. I then colored the leaf and flower images direct with marker and stamped into the dirt.
- Cut out spill and plants.
- I adhered Ben's front and back head together and laid him on my base card. I then drew in where I wanted the hill - considering where his hands will sit on top of the hill. I cut out the portion above the pencil line.
- To add color to the hill, I laid down a base color of light green, using Bonnie's technique of putting my ink on a handy dandy water color pallet (which I got at my class!), added a little water, picked up color with a wide tip water brush and spread it. Left a few white spaces for
interest. Randomly stamped grass using the tiny and long grass images in darker shade ink.
- Repeat on the other side of the hill.
- Adhere Ben on top of hill, watching placement for his hands on front & back.
- I used my computer to make the sentiment. This is something my daughter (the youngest) says often. :o)
- Adhere sentiment and flower pot with dirt on the inside. I put a little slit in the dirt with a craft knife and inserted the broken piece .
