I found myself again with a blank cover that I had to paint. :)
As I usually do, I taped off a boarder and started with gesso, but this time I put a stencil down first - I wanted the brown to show through. I laid down thin layers of paint with various stencils - I really dig MaryBeth's club design this month and used all three stencils from the set. I also used a few non-club stencils. The birds are from a few months ago - it's they are one of my favorites! I used paint markers to paint the birds in a streaked fashion.
The idea for this series of art pieces was sparked by Dina's post on masks. I thought what a cool idea! I started looking through my magazines a little differently and also googled women in fashion. I found several great images for this simple and fun technique. I glued the images onto cardstock and cut them out. I liked one image so much I made a vinyl stencil out of it. I have been saving close up images as inspiration for drawing faces. Now, I have several images for inspiration. So many, I put them into a binder.
I used both the negative and positive images in my designs. I painted and sponged ink over variety of backgrounds that were in my stash from previous coloring frenzies - techniques included gelli prints, resists, shaving cream, abstract painting, alcohol ink and a masking tape.
Try this one! You'll have fun! I have to find more images, I have so many more backgrounds to use. :)
You've seen them....those perfect photos of someone's perfectly organized creative space. But, what does it look like when the creative juices are flowing? Probably not perfect. :) At least mine doesn't. In this photo I'm working with water color mediums for a poppy scene.
